Prince Harry and Meghan Markle's recent "grovelling" visit to Britain showcases the latest attempt to regain a foot back in the door of the UK, but it could leave a sour taste in the mouths of their children later down the line, a royal editor has claimed.

During the family's European summer break, Harry, Meghan and their two children shared tea with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove, marking the monarch's first encounter with the Duchess and the youngsters since 2022.

Ingrid Seward, editor-in-chief of Majesty Magazine, interprets the visit as evidence that the Sussexes are actively seeking to restore their relationship with the Royal Family.

The royal expert suggested that the couple's children — Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five — could one day resent their parents for keeping them at arm's length from their royal relatives.

"I think the children could be really annoyed, not now, but when they grow up, with their father and mother," she told The Sun.

"They could ask 'Why haven't you introduced me to my other life, my cousins, my heritage?' And I think that would be an awkward one for Harry and Meghan to explain."

Mrs Seward also hinted that the duke may eventually wish to see Archie and Lilibet schooled in Britain.

Meghan, it is suggested, is a fan of Harry's potential royal reconciliation.

Mrs Seward claims the duchess's "popularity is shattered" in the US, and repairing relations would help her position - though she cautioned that the Duchess must "take a back seat and gradually work around this."

She added that she believes the pair are "grovelling".

While Harry ultimately left the UK with a smile on his face, it was not exactly smooth-sailing.

The duke was in Britain for a five-day visit encompassing the Invictus Games in Birmingham and had originally planned to bring his family for the entire duration.

Instead, he arrived alone - and just hours before landing in London, an invitation to stay at Buckingham Palace was reportedly rescinded after he missed the deadline to confirm.

Princess Lilibet

Meghan entered the country covertly with the children, her arrival delayed by persistent security worries.

The duke lost his legal challenge against the Home Office over its refusal to fund police protection, given his status as a non-working royal.

A risk management board was due to reassess whether he merits automatic police protection on each UK visit.

Looking ahead, Mrs Seward believes the King's advancing years will make him increasingly eager to spend time with his grandchildren, though his packed schedule may limit opportunities.

"I think the King will say to Harry, 'Darling boy, you know I can only really see you in Scotland', where he will be given assurances about security, and that is what I think will happen," she said.

The annual Balmoral summer retreat may prove the most realistic setting for future reunions, she suggested, though she considered this summer unlikely.

Mending the fractured bond between Harry and Prince William, however, is an altogether different proposition.

"The issues with Harry and his brother are a whole other ball game completely," Mrs Seward cautioned.
