Roughly 200 positions are being eliminated, with about half of the layoffs coming from the Vision Pro division and the remainder from Siri and related software teams. Within the Vision Pro group, most of the layoffs are concentrated on teams dedicated to gaming and immersive video. For Siri, the layoffs primarily affect those working on the previous version of the assistant, as Apple’s new AI-powered Siri requires a different skill set. Apple acknowledged that it was making cuts and realigning teams in response to a changing product mix. “While we will create new roles as part of this change, it will also impact a limited number of existing roles,” the company said. “We are grateful to these team members for their contributions, and we are committed to supporting them throughout their transition, including opportunities to apply for other roles at Apple.” The move arrives as little surprise to industry watchers. Last year, rumors circulated that Apple had put plans for a Vision Pro successor on hold, choosing instead to focus on developing AI-powered glasses similar to Meta’s. Apple’s vice president overseeing the Vision Pro recently departed for OpenAI, and reports suggest that teams have been reassigned from Vision Pro projects to work on the company’s anticipated augmented reality glasses.  At the same time, Apple is moving away from the older version of Siri, focusing instead on the new AI-driven assistant that launched with iOS 27.
