Kiro, bu anma töreninin Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Hükümeti ve Türk halkının derin cömertliği ve dostluğu sayesinde mümkün olduğunu vurguladı. Gelibolu Yarımadası'nda yaşamını yitirenlerin geride kalan ailelerinde derin boşluklar bıraktığını belirten Kiro, savaşta hayatını kaybeden Yeni Zelandalılara ilişkin hikayeler anlattı. Kiro, Gazi Mustafa Kemal Atatürk'ün savaş sonrası Anzak annelerine yazdığı "Bu memleketin toprakları üstünde kanlarını döken kahramanlar, burada dost bir vatanın toprağındasınız. Huzur ve sükun içinde uyuyunuz. Sizler Mehmetçiklerle yan yana, koyun koyunasınız. Uzak diyarlardan evlatlarını harbe gönderen analar, gözyaşlarınızı dindiriniz, evlatlarınız bizim bağrımızdadır, huzur içindedirler. Ve huzur içinde rahat rahat uyuyacaklardır. Onlar bu toprakta canlarını verdikten sonra artık bizim evlatlarımız olmuşlardır." mektubundaki sözlerini hatırlatarak "Bu söz, bir asrın ardından bugün hala güçlü şekilde tutulmaya ve yankılanmaya devam etmektedir." ifadesini kullandı. Avustralya'nın Ankara Büyükelçisi Sally-Anne Vincent de yasın sadece Avustralyalılar için tutulmadığını, çok sayıda Türk askerinin de vatanı korumaya çalışırken hayatını kaybettiğini vurguladı. Atatürk'ün mektubundaki "Burada, dost bir vatanın toprağındasınız." sözlerine atıfta bulunan Vincent, "Bu sözler, derin bir gerçekliği ifade etmektedir, büyük acılardan, karşılıklı anlayış doğabilir. Eski düşmanlıklardan, dostluklar yeşerebilir. Türkiye, Avustralya ve Yeni Zelanda arasındaki ilişki, hatıra, saygı ve ortak insanlığımızın tanınması üzerine kuruludur." diye konuştu. Törende, Gelibolu 2. Kolordu Komutanlığından Piyade Tugay Komutanı Vekili Piyade Kurmay Albay Fatih Cansız, Atatürk'ün Çanakkale Savaşları'nda hayatını kaybeden yabancı ülke askerlerinin ailelerine gönderdiği mektubu Türkçe ve İngilizce okudu. Çanakkale Savaşları'nda hayatını kaybedenler için dua edilen törende, Türkiye Cumhuriyeti Devleti'nin çelengi Çanakkale Valisi Ömer Toraman tarafından sunuldu. Ayrıca Avustralya, Yeni Zelanda, Avusturya, Bangladeş, Kanada, Fransa, Almanya, Macaristan, Hindistan, İrlanda, Pakistan, Güney Afrika ve Birleşik Krallık'tan büyükelçi ve üst düzey yöneticiler de askerler anısına çelenk bıraktı. Törene, Gelibolu 2. Kolordu Komutanı Tümgeneral Ferat Vural, Amfibi Kolordu Komutanı Tümamiral Hüseyin Tığlı, Çanakkale Boğaz ve Garnizon Komutanı Tuğamiral Mustafa Biçen, Kültür ve Turizm Bakanlığı Çanakkale Savaşları Gelibolu Tarihi Alan Başkanı İsmail Kaşdemir'in yanı sıra Avustralya Savunma Kuvvetleri Komutanı Amiral David Johnston, Yeni Zelanda Savunma Kuvvetleri Komutan Yardımcısı Tuğamiral Mathew Williams katıldı. Anzak, Avustralya ve Yeni Zelanda Kolordusu (Australian and New Zealand Army Corps) kelimelerinin ilk harflerinin kısaltılmasından oluşuyor. Anzak Günü ise Avustralyalı ve Yeni Zelandalı askerlerin 25 Nisan 1915'te Gelibolu'da karaya çıkışının yıl dönümü olarak anılıyor.
