One of the easiest ways for an AI maker to guide an LLM in mental health chats is to use a system-wide prompt devised by the AI maker. The AI maker stores the system-wide prompt in the LLM, and the prompt serves as a global indicator of what the AI is supposed to do for all users. Within the overarching system-wide prompt are usually specific instructions that the AI maker has written to guide the AI when users seek mental health advice.Though most of the major LLMs often do not readily disclose their system-wide prompts and consider those global instructions to be proprietary, Anthropic makes theirs publicly available. I have excerpted from the Claude system-wide prompt some of the portions that are especially relevant to how the AI is to respond to mental health questions.
