ALBAWABA - A Connecticut-based streamer raised a lawsuit against streaming platform Twitch and Amazon for using his streams as a “dataset necessary to fuel Amazon's AI products” without any license or permission.
Warren Pandiscia took a stand against firms using his streams to train their AI models, filing a class action lawsuit against Twitch and Amazon earlier this week, according to Courthouse News.
Twitch Support posted on X earlier this month saying that they added an option to opt-out of "having your channel content used to train generative AI content models across Amazon," in a subsequent stream, Twitch chief product officer said "if it was opt-in, nobody would opt in.”
The lawsuit accuses the companies of breaching streamers contracts by using them as "free training stock for separate commercial AI products,"
Adding that the companies benefitted from their streamers, who "lost money or property as a result of defendants' unlawful, unfair and fraudulent practices."
The lawsuit echoes a similar one raised against Apple by three YouTubers, accusing it of scraping their copyrighted content to train its AI models, earlier this year.
