The Monaco Grand Prix proved to be a busy afternoon for the stewards, with numerous penalties being handed out across the 78-lap encounter. While Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli enjoyed what he labelled as an “incredible” race en route to his fifth win of the season, several of the drivers behind him were hit with punishments during the event. As such, F1.com has compiled a round-up of who received penalties at the 2026 Monaco Grand Prix – with some sanctions proving more significant than others in terms of their impact on each driver’s race… It was a rollercoaster afternoon for Sergio Perez in Monaco, which started with a drive-through penalty for being out of position at the start, the Mexican having pulled into P16 on the grid – which had been vacated by Audi’s Gabriel Bortoleto, who started from the pit lane – rather than P18. The Cadillac driver later appeared to have scored the team’s first point in F1 with a P10 finish – but this was taken away post-race when Perez received a 10-second time penalty for being out of position at the race restart, the stewards having found that his front right wheel was outside of the starting box. He subsequently fell back to P15. Finally, Perez was also given a reprimand for making a practice start in the wrong position during his reconnaissance lap to the grid earlier on. After a tricky Qualifying on Saturday put George Russell in P6 at the start, the Briton’s afternoon became even more challenging when he received a five-second time penalty for speeding in the pit lane. To make matters worse, the penalty was not served when Russell next made a pit stop, meaning that he subsequently received a drive-through penalty for failing to serve the earlier penalty correctly. This dropped the Mercedes driver back to a final position of P12. Nico Hulkenberg Following the resumption of the race after a red flag in the latter stages, Audi’s Nico Hulkenberg looked to potentially be in with a shot of scoring points in Monaco. However, following a standing start the German tagged Williams’ Carlos Sainz at the hairpin and received a 10-second time penalty for causing a collision, putting him down to P13. What an afternoon it was for Pierre Gasly, who crossed the line in P3 for Alpine – but two separate five-second time penalties for speeding in the pit lane demoted the Frenchman to P7. Gasly admitted to feeling “heartbroken” at his missed podium – and Alpine have since confirmed that they have requested a Right of Review from F1’s governing body, the FIA. Gasly was not the only driver hit with a penalty for pit lane speeding in Monaco, with Lewis Hamilton amongst those to also receive a five-second penalty for the same offence. Hamilton had additionally been investigated for an alleged Safety Car infringement, but the stewards decided that no further action was necessary and the Ferrari driver retained his P2 finish. Like his Alpine team mate, Franco Colapinto served a five-second time penalty for speeding in the pit lane. The Argentinian also faced an investigation for an alleged collision with Carlos Sainz, but no further action was taken. Following a recent run of points finishes, Colapinto did not enjoy such luck in Monte Carlo and ended the event in P14. It was another tricky weekend for McLaren, with Lando Norris retiring from the race due to an issue with his car. Oscar Piastri, meanwhile, received a five-second time penalty for pit lane speeding – but the Australian still managed to salvage some decent points for the squad in fourth place. The first Safety Car of the race was triggered on Lap 60 when Lance Stroll hit the barriers in his Aston Martin. It marked a tough end to a difficult day for the Canadian, who had earlier received a five-second time penalty for exceeding track limits.
