Al-Hamadi and Iqbal named in Iraq's World Cup squadImage source, Getty ImagesImage caption, Ali Al-Hamadi and Zidane Iqbal were part of Iraq's squad for their World Cup play-off win over Bolivia in MexicoByBen CollinsBBC Sport journalistPublished12 minutes agoIpswich forward Ali Al-Hamadi and Manchester United youth product Zidane Iqbal are part of Iraq's squad for the 2026 World Cup.But coach Graham Arnold left out Dundee United defender Dario Naamo, who recently switched his international allegiance from Finland and made his Iraq debut in Friday's 1-0 friendly win over Andorra.Ahmed Qasem also made his debut on Friday, after switching from Sweden, and the Nashville SC midfielder is included Arnold's 26-man squad.Al-Hamadi's family fled Iraq when he was a baby and settled in Liverpool, where he was signed by Tranmere before making his EFL debut with Wycombe in 2022.The 24-year-old became the first Iraqi player to feature in the Premier League with Ipswich in 2024 and spent the season just completed on loan with Luton in League One.Al-Hamadi and experienced forward Aymen Hussein scored as Iraq beat Bolivia 2-1 in the World Cup play-offs to qualify for the first time in 40 years, while Iqbal was an unused substitute.The Manchester-born midfielder, 23, came through United's academy and made one Champions League appearance before joining Dutch side Utrecht in 2023, playing 18 times last season.Goalkeeper Jalal Hassan is Iraq's captain and their most experienced player with 100 caps.
