AfD to withdraw Germany from eurozone, Schengen Agreement if comes to power - leader

BERLIN, August 23. /TASS/. Co-chair of the Alternative for Germany (AfD) Alice Weidel has reiterated her party’s plans to withdraw Germany from the eurozone and pull out of the Schengen Agreement if it comes to power. "Germany was much better off before the introduction of the euro. We are seeing widespread impoverishment among large segments of the working population," she said in an interview with the ZDF television channel. Now, according to Weidel, Germany no longer has a strong currency, while a weak euro is causing losses for ordinary citizens. Touching on migration issues, the AfD leader noted that problems begin on the border. "We will close it (the border - TASS), we will withdraw from the Schengen Agreement so that people from Ceuta could no longer arrive here," she said, adding that in case her party comes to power, "all the Syrians will be returned to their homeland" and "the Afghanis will no longer be brought [to Germany] by planes." The Alternative for Germany currently tops political party rankings in Germany.
