Abu Hamza’s son has launched a legal bid to return to the UK after he reportedly fought for Al Qaeda in Syria.

Sufean Kamal, 31, lost his British citizenship when he allegedly began fighting with terrorist organisations in the Middle East.

Authorities have stated he poses a threat to national security; despite this, he has launched a legal bid to return to Britain, where his wife and children live.

Kamal is the son of Abu Hamza, the terrorist who was deported to America over terrorism offences.

Hamza was a preacher at Finsbury Park Mosque in North London before he was arrested.

Kamal is British-born and was formerly a computer science student, and was welcomed by jihadi groups because of his father, an MI5 assessment concluded.

His lawyers are now arguing that the removal of his citizenship was illegal due to the MI5 assessment being false.

They are also claiming he is being denied his human rights to a family life.

Kamal denies fighting for Al Qaeda, or any other terrorist groups, his lawyers claim.

They have stated that he was fighting alongside the Assad regime with the Syrian Free Army, which is backed by the UK.

His case was heard last week at the Special Immigration Appeals Commission with MI5 sharing classfied intellegence with the panel of judges.

An unnamed informant, known as MT, provided evidence against Kamal from behind a curtain as the alleged terrorist watched from Syria via video link.

After Kamal’s father was extradited to the US in 2013, he fled to Syria.

Kamal’s lawyers claimed he stayed away from terror groups within the region and went to “fight against terrorists, not become one.”

Evidence was heard that in 2016, there was enough evidence that Kamal had been fighting with terrorist groups that MI5 advised the then-Home Secretary to revoke his citizenship.

At the time, it was said: “Should Kamal return to the UK, we assess that there is a real risk that he would use his experience in Syria to assist UK-based Islamist extremists to engage in Islamist extremist activity.”

During the case, it was revealed that Kamal had tried to return in 2019, but he was intercepted and arrested in Istanbul, where hw was held for two years.

Intelligence agents in Turkey attempted to find information about his time in Syria and deport him to Morocco, where his mother is from; however were unsuccessful.

At the hearing, Kamal said: “Taking away my citizenship has affected my family and me. I am not a terrorist.”

His father was sentenced to life without parole in America in 2014.
