toplantısında, Avrupa'da yaşanan jet yakıtı sıkıntısına ilişkin açıklamalarda bulundu. Avrupa'da petrol krizi durumunda veri toplamak için standart bir süreç olmadığını anlatan Itkonen, "Özellikle petrol ürünleri olmak üzere, farklı aktörlerin stoklarının gelişimi konusunda şeffaflık eksikliği de var." dedi. Itkonen, son derece istikrarsız bir jeopolitik durum yaşandığını anımsatarak, "Bununla birlikte, AB Komisyonu üye ülkelerinin ne kadar yakıtı olduğunu tam olarak biliyor. Kriz başladığından beri üye ülkeler, sektör temsilcileri, Uluslararası Enerji Ajansı ve diğer paydaşlarla haftalık olarak görüşüyoruz. Bir sonraki Petrol Koordinasyon Grubu toplantısı da bu hafta yapılacak." diye konuştu. AB içindeki bilgi paylaşım mekanizmasının iyi çalıştığını, ek şeffaflık sağladığını ve eylemleri koordine etmeye yardımcı olduğunu anlatan Itkonen, "Ticari stoklar ve stratejik stoklar arasındaki farkı biraz açıklamam gerekiyor. Şu anda ağırlıklı olarak ticari jet yakıtı stoklarıyla ilgili birçok haber görüyoruz. Burada Komisyon, hava yollarından ve diğer ilgili aktörlerden bilgi alıyor. Bu bilgileri vermek veya paylaşmak zorunda değiller, ancak devam eden koordinasyon çabasına katılıyorlar." dedi. Itkonen, şirketlerin veya üye ülkelerin ne kadar jet yakıtına sahip olduğunu açıklamanın AB Komisyonunun görevi olmadığını, stratejik petrol stoklarıyla ilgili özel sözleşmelere erişimlerinin de bulunmadığını belirterek, "Sanırım kimse bu durumun ne kadar daha süreceğini bilmiyor. Bu nedenle yapabileceğimiz en iyi ve en etkili şey her türlü olasılığa hazırlanmak." diye konuştu. Üye ülkeler ve diğer paydaşlarla yakın koordinasyon ve iş birliğinin çok önemli olduğuna işaret eden Itkonen, "Bu hafta hava yollarına yönelik jet yakıtlarıyla ilgili bir rehber yayınlayacağız." dedi. Avrupa'da, Orta Doğu'daki çatışma ve Hürmüz Boğazı'ndan sevkiyatların yapılamaması nedeniyle petrol ve doğal gaz fiyatları hızla arttı. Gübre fiyatlarının da hızla yükseldiği Avrupa'da, jet yakıtı fiyatları geçen yıldan bu yana 2 kattan fazla artış gösterdi. Orta Doğu'daki çatışmalar ve Hürmüz Boğazı'ndan sevkiyatların aksaması nedeniyle Avrupa'da petrol ve doğal gaz fiyatlarında hızlı artış yaşandı. Avrupa'da özellikle jet yakıtı fiyatları geçen yıla göre iki katından fazla arttı. AB rafinerileri normal şartlarda jet yakıtı tüketiminin yüzde 70'ini karşılayabiliyor. Kalan kısmı ise özellikle Orta Doğu ve Körfez ülkelerinden ithal ediliyor. Uluslararası Enerji Ajansı (IEA) Başkanı Fatih Birol, geçen ay Avrupa'nın kısa süre içinde jet yakıtı kıtlığı riskiyle karşı karşıya kalabileceği uyarısında bulunmuştu. Hollanda merkezli hava yolu şirketi KLM, artan yakıt maliyetleri nedeniyle bu ay Avrupa içinde 160 uçuşu iptal edeceğini açıkladı. Alman hava yolu şirketi Lufthansa da maliyet baskıları nedeniyle iştiraki CityLine’ın faaliyetlerini durdurma kararı aldı. Lufthansa ayrıca, jet yakıtı fiyatlarındaki artış nedeniyle ekim ayına kadar planlanan 20 bin kısa mesafeli uçuşu iptal edeceğini duyurdu. Düşük maliyetli hava yolu şirketleri Ryanair ve EasyJet ile turizm şirketi TUI, olumsuz pazar koşulları nedeniyle yıl sonu tahminlerini aşağı yönlü revize etti.
