Açıklamada, "Bu görev, hayati öneme sahip bu uluslararası ticaret koridorundan serbestçe geçiş yapmak isteyen ticari gemilere destek sağlayacaktır." ifadesi kullanıldı. Bu kapsamda 15 bin askeri personelin yanı sıra 100’den fazla kara ve deniz aracı ve güdümlü füze destroyerleriyle söz konusu sürece askeri destek sağlanacağı belirtilen açıklamada, CENTCOM Komutanı Amiral Brad Cooper'ın, "(İran'a yönelik) Deniz ablukasını sürdürürken bu savunma görevine verdiğimiz destek, bölgesel güvenlik ve küresel ekonomi için hayati önem taşıyor." ifadesine yer verildi. ABD Dışişleri Bakanlığından geçen hafta yapılan açıklamada, Hürmüz Boğazı'ndaki deniz güvenliğini desteklemek amacıyla uluslararası bir koalisyonun oluşturulmasına yönelik bir adım atıldığı ve Pentagonun da bu sürece destek sağlayacağı belirtilmişti. Trump, bugünden itibaren, Hürmüz Boğazı'nda mahsur kalan ve Orta Doğu'daki krizle ilgisi olmayan "tarafsız" ülkelere ait gemilerin boğazdan geçişine yardım etmeye başlayacaklarını açıklamıştı.
