At least 10 people were killed and over 10 others injured in intercommunal clashes in Chad's Batha Province, local media and witnesses said Friday.
The violence erupted Thursday in Rebmbara and Alkhaba areas, where rival communities clashed over a farmland dispute. Local media initially reported six deaths.
Rakhis Ahmat Saleh, president of the Batha provincial council, described the situation as "profoundly regrettable" in a statement Friday, urging residents to prioritize dialogue and reconciliation.
Security forces have been deployed to the area to prevent further escalation and restore calm, sources said.
Intercommunal clashes linked to land disputes are common in Chad.
