Malatya'ya gelen Kara, AA muhabirine, aşıların çok stratejik ürünler olduğunu ve Türkiye'nin değişecek enfeksiyon ve gelişecek salgın risklerine karşı kendi aşısını kendisinin üretmesinin gerektiğini söyledi. Aşı Enstitüsü olarak Halk Sağlığı Genel Müdürlüğünün alt yapısı ve laboratuvar gücünü de arkalarına alarak şu anda boğmaca aşısını farklı bir yapısıyla geliştirmeye çalıştıklarını belirten Kara, şöyle konuştu: "Daha uzun süre koruma sağlaması amacıyla RSV için çocuklarda çok önemli, büyüklerimizde çok önemli o aşının üzerinde çalışıyoruz. Ama bunlar biraz daha şu anda başlangıç döneminde, hayvan çalışmalarının öncesindeki dönemde. Ama diğer taraftan baktığımızda kuduz aşısında hayvan çalışmaları düzeyine geldik, ilk uygulamalarımızı yapıyoruz. Orada oldukça başarılıyız. Yine Halk Sağlığı Genel Müdürlüğümüzün elde ettiği kaynak ve bilgiyle biz oradan hareket ettik. Şu anda belli noktalara kadar da bu aşımızı getirdik." - "Dünyada ilk geliştiren ülke biz olmak istiyoruz" Kara, Kırım Kongo Kanamalı Ateşi için de aşı çalışmalarının sürdüğünü bildirerek, "Bu aşıda hayvan çalışmaları düzeyine geldik. Bunu iki koldan yürütüyoruz. Diğer aşıda da preklinik dediğimiz laboratuvardaki test sonuçları tamamlanmak üzere. Yakın dönemde o da hayvan çalışmalarına geçecek. Kırım Kongo Kanamalı Ateşi için insan kaybettiğimiz, risk taşıdığımız bir hastalığın aşısını dünyada ilk geliştiren ülke biz olmak istiyoruz. O yönde de çalışıyoruz." dedi. Teknoloji transferi aracılığıyla da çocukluk çağında ve risk gruplarında kullandıkları aşıları Türkiye'de üretmek istediklerini aktaran Kara, "Şu an için kullandığımız kızamık, kızamıkçık, kabakulak aşısı, altılı aşı, özellikle gebelere uyguladığımız difteriden, tetanozdan, boğmacadan hem anneyi hem de doğan bebeği koruyan Tdap aşımız. Biz bu aşıların da ülkemizde üretilmesini istiyoruz ve ona yönelik çalışıyoruz. Dünyadaki en gelişmiş aşılardan birisi olan konjuge pnömokok aşısı, onun da teknoloji transferiyle Türkiye'de olmasını istiyoruz." şeklinde konuştu. Hayvan çalışmalarına başladıkları aşıların gelecek iki yıl içerisinde kullanılabilir hale getirilmesinin söz konusu olacağını ifade eden Kara, şunları paylaştı: "Teknoloji transferiyle başladığımız aşılar var; su çiçeği ve Hepatit A. Onda belli bir başarıyı elde ettik artık. Neredeyse dolmuş, hazırlanmış. Formülasyonu yapılmış aşılar kullanıma giriyor. Bunlar büyük başarılar ve yakında da diğer aşılarda da benzer şekilde hareket etmeyi planlıyoruz. Tabii bunların belli bir zaman ve işleyiş süresi var. Bunlar arasında öncelikle biz aşının geliştirme süreçlerinde binlerle ifade edilen, 10 binlerle mesela biz kuduz aşısında hayvan testlerine gelene kadar 10 binlerin üzerinde test uygulamıştık. Kuduz aşısı dünyada daha önce geliştirilmiş ve belli noktaları bilinen aşılar. Biz bunun üzerine koyarak ilerliyoruz. Daha iyisini yapalım diye uğraşıyoruz. Kırım Kongo Kanamalı Ateşi aşısında mesela biz tamamen yepyeni bir aşıya ve çok güvenli olmasını isteyerek ilerlediğimiz için şunu söyleyebiliriz. Önümüzdeki birkaç ay içerisinde hayvan çalışmalarına başlayacağız. İkinci koldaki aşımıza da büyük olasılıkla yıl sonunda hayvan çalışmalarına başlayacağız. Ne zaman tam olarak insanlarda rahatlıkla uygulayabilirizin cevabını kesin verebilmemiz çok mümkün olmamakla beraber bizim niyetimiz 2-3 yıllık bir periyot içerisinde bu aşıları artık ülkemizde kullanılır hale getirmek." Bu testlerin bir kısmında kullanacağımız sarf malzeme, yani test için gereken malzemeler dışarıdan gelebilir ama onun dışında aşılar tamamen bizim kendi üretimimiz olacak." bilgisini verdi.
