Mücadele Daire Başkanı Zeynep Boz, AA muhabirine, Türkiye'de tarihi eser kaçakçılığıyla mücadelede önemli işlere imza attıklarını belirtti. Kültür varlığı kaçakçılığını yurt içi ve yurt dışı kaçakçılıkla mücadele ve farkındalık çalışmalarıyla engellemek için programlar yürüttüklerini dile getiren Boz, "Yurt dışından eser iadesi bu çalışmaların içerisinde en sembolik ve de uluslararası kamuoyuna verilen en güçlü mesajı aslında temsil ediyor." dedi. Boz, 2002'den bu yana 13 bin 453 eserin Türkiye'ye iadesinin sağlandığını hatırlattı. Kurumlar arası işbirliğinin sahadaki başarıyı artırdığını ifade eden Boz, şöyle konuştu: "Bu işbirliği sayesinde yurt içinde de çok fazla eser yakalanıyor. Her sene ağırlığı sikkelerden oluşmak üzere 1 milyonun üzerinde eser yakalandığını söyleyebiliriz. Bunlar Türkiye'de yakalanmasa yurt dışına kaçırılacak ve belki iadesini sağlayabileceğiz belki sağlayamayacağız. O yüzden bu eserlerin de vurgulanması, bu çalışmaların da vurgulanması çok önemli." Boz, eğitim ve farkındalık çalışmalarıyla kaçakçılığın önlenmesinde önemli bir yol izlediklerini ifade etti. Kaçakçılığın önlenebilmesi için toplumsal bilincin de oluşturulması gerektiğini vurgulayan Boz, şunları kaydetti: "Bizim insanımıza kültür varlıklarının önemini benimsetmemiz gerekir. Bunu da yapabilmek için 7'den 77'ye gerçekleştirdiğimiz eğitim çalışmalarıyla bu konuda var olmaya devam ediyoruz. Yıllar önce çok basit bir suç sayılan ve belki de dünya genelinde çok fazla önemsenmeyen, bir kere köken ülkeden çıktıktan sonra pazar ülkeye gittiğinde adeta aklanmış sayılan eserlerin artık bu şekilde muamele görmediğini ve müzelerin, büyük kurumların, enstitülerin, yabancı kurumların da bilhassa o eserin nereden geldiğini sorduğunu görüyoruz."
