Kısa sürede büyüyen alevler asansörü kaplarken yoğun duman oluştu. İhbar üzerine bölgeye polis, sağlık ve itfaiye ekipleri sevk edildi. İtfaiye ekiplerinin müdahalesiyle yangın kısa sürede söndürüldü. Metro İstanbul'un sosyal medya hesabından yapılan açıklamada, Cumhuriyet Tüneli alt geçit bölgesinde çıkan ufak çaplı yangın nedeniyle, M2 Yenikapı-Hacıosman Metro Hattı Taksim İstasyonu Cumhuriyet Tüneli çıkışının işletmeye kapatıldığı belirtildi. Yangının kontrol altına alındığı ifade edilen açıklamada, istasyonun diğer girişlerinin yolcuların kullanımına açık olduğu kaydedildi. Metro İstanbul'dan yapılan bir diğer açıklamada ise Cumhuriyet Tüneli çıkışının işletmeye açıldığı bildirildi.
