By JOSHUA HAINING, NEWS REPORTER Published: 10:42, 13 May 2026 | Updated: 10:48, 13 May 2026 Seaside villagers have slammed a row of new-build homes that 'look like Lego bricks'. Furious residents have said four pastel-coloured properties being built in Greatstone, Kent, don't match their seaside town's character and 'stick out like a sore thumb.' Irritated villager, Karen, whose home looks onto the colourful square houses said the buildings 'don't belong here.' She said: 'They do look like Lego bricks. If you look at four Lego bricks and stick two different coloured ones on top you have the houses. The 65-year-old, who has lived in the area for 24 years, said there was no place for the new-builds because they don't fit in. 'We have got nothing like it around here. They are nice houses in a different area. All the houses here are 1930s. These stick out like a sore thumb.' 'They are right in front of me so they are in your face. We never had anything in front of us and then all of a sudden you have got these. They don't belong here.' Karen said she initially supported the building project as she believed it would be affordable housing for young people. Furious seaside villagers have hit out at four houses that 'look like lego bricks' and do not belong in their town The four pastel-coloured properties mimic 93 new bright beach huts built nearby. The housing developers have stood by their choice to base their design on the huts But she did not expect the garish house designs and the rumoured high price tags on the properties. The villager also complained of non-stop construction noise and dust since the work began in spring last year. 'The bulldozers started coming in and obviously there was a lot of muck and dust,' she said. 'We all have to keep our windows shut. It has been going on too long now.' 'They look like half-finished flats. So far, 276 people don't like them. We thought they were going to be affordable housing for the youngsters in the area.' Neighbour Lesley Thompsett said she 'didn't understand [the houses] at all'. 'I didn't think it was too bad until they put those coloured pieces on the top,' she told the BBC.  'They look like bits of Lego stuck on top of a brick building.' The homes which will be completed later in 2026 mimic 93 new bright beach huts built nearby. Developers TG Designer Homes have stood by their choice to build the houses based on the hut design. Owner Anthony Ralph said: 'The purpose of the colour, was our modern take on a traditional British Beach hut.' No comments have so far been submitted.
