Antalya Diplomasi Forumu'na katılmak üzere geldiği Antalya'da AA muhabirinin sorularını yanıtladı. ADF'ye 5. kez katıldıklarını belirten Üstel, her katılımda dünyanın değişik ülkelerinin gerek başkanları, gerek başkan yardımcıları gerekse bakan ve diplomatlarıyla bir arada bulunma şansı elde ettiklerini dile getirdi. Üstel, ADF'nin KKTC açısından çok önemli ve kendileri için dünyaya açılan kapı olduğunu vurgulayarak, forumda Kıbrıs konusunu anlatma fırsatı bulduklarının altını çizdi. Kıbrıs Türkü'nün 1974 Barış Harekatı ile barışa kavuştuğuna işaret eden Üstel, "O günden bugüne kadar Rum hükümetinin baskılarıyla dünya bize ambargo uyguladı, izolasyon uyguladı ve her alanda bizi engelliyorlar. Bir tek bizim ana vatanımız, Türkiye'nin bize açtığı yollardan, açtığı kapılardan dünyaya ulaşıyoruz." ifadelerini kullandı. Üstel, yaşadıkları problemleri ADF'de anlattıklarına ve yıllardır dünyaya duyurmaya çalıştıklarına dikkati çekerek, "Maalesef bizi, ana vatanımız Türkiye'den başka anlayan bir ülke olmadı ve o doğrultuda anlamaları için buradan (ADF'de) bu fırsatı değerlendirip bu gerçekleri anlatıyoruz." dedi. Cumhurbaşkanı Recep Tayyip Erdoğan'ın Kıbrıs konusuna değinmesinin kendileri için çok önemli olduğunu vurgulayan Üstel, bu konudaki destekleri için teşekkür etti. Üstel, Güney Kıbrıs Rum Yönetimi'nin (GKRY) her fırsatta Kıbrıs Türkü'nü yok etmek için elinden gelen her şeyi yaptığını belirterek, Türkiye dışında dünyada kendilerine yönelik duyarsızlığın olduğunu dile getirdi. GKRY'nin Orta Doğu'daki savaşlar sonrası Ada'yı "savaş adası"na çevirdiğine dikkati çeken Üstel, şöyle devam etti: "Amerika orada, İngiliz orada, Fransız orada, Alman orada, İspanyol orada ve Hindistan da orada ve oradan KKTC'ye gözdağı vermeye çalışıyor ve bu gözdağı verilirken de birtakım savunma gösterileri yapılırken savunma silahlarını sergileyerek ve oraya getirilen Yunanistan'dan uçakları kullanarak Kıbrıs Türk tarafına gözdağı vermeye çalışıyor ama unutuyor ki KKTC halkının arkasında Türkiye var ve aynı şekilde karşılık veriyoruz. Bizim de F-16'larımız Ercan Havalimanı'nda konaklıyor, savaş gemilerimiz limanlarda konaklıyor, savunma sistemlerimiz ve diğer savunma sistemleri hepsi faaliyet içerisinde ve Rum'un en ufak bir hareketi olduğu zaman hemen müdahale ve sessiz kalamayacağımızı da orada bulunan gerek barış kuvvetlerimiz gerekse güvenlik kuvvetlerimiz ve gerekse burada Genelkurmay Başkanımız ve Savunma Bakanımızın direktifleri doğrultusunda hareket ediyorlar." Üstel, Türkiye'nin sağladığı güvenlik ve savunma sistemleriyle rahat ve huzur içinde yaşadıklarını vurguladı. KKTC'nin Türk Devletleri Teşkilatına Türkiye ve Cumhurbaşkanı Erdoğan'ın desteğiyle girdiklerini ve "gözlemci üye" statüsünü kazandıklarını belirten Üstel, Türk dünyasında, her platformda Türkiye'nin desteğiyle yer aldıklarını sözlerine ekledi.
