Iranian lawmakers are preparing to vote on legislation that would place £43.5million bounties on the heads of Donald Trump and Benjamin Netanyahu.

The proposed bill is Tehran’s response to the killing of Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei during joint US-Israeli military strikes that triggered the conflict.

If passed, the legislation would offer the multimillion-pound reward to anyone who assassinates either the US President or Israeli Prime Minister.

Fatwas have already issued against both leaders by senior Iranian clerics.

Religious figures in Iran have repeatedly urged Muslims worldwide to avenge Mr Khamenei’s death.

Ebrahim Azizi, chairman of Iran’s national security commission, confirmed the legislation was being prepared under the title "Reciprocal action by military and security forces of the Islamic Republic".

"As Trump ordered the killing of Ali Khamenei, he himself should be dealt with by every Muslim and every free person," Mr Azizi said, according to Iranian state television.

Fellow commission member Mahmood Nabavian also issued a direct threat, saying the proposed reward would be for sending "Mr Trump and Netanyahu to hell".

"The vile American and Zionist officials, as well as the heads of regional countries, should know that if any aggression takes place this time, we will destroy them along with their palaces," Mr Nabavian warned.

It comes after Mr Trump stepped back from a planned large-scale military strike against Iran following last-minute diplomatic pressure from Gulf leaders.

The US President said he had agreed to pause the operation after appeals from Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the rulers of Qatar and the United Arab Emirates.

"I have been asked... to hold off on our planned Military attack of the Islamic Republic of Iran, which was scheduled for tomorrow," Mr Trump wrote on Truth Social.

However, he warned that a “full, large-scale assault of Iran" was ready "on a moment’s notice" in the event a deal could not be reached.

The President stressed any future agreement must stop Iran obtaining nuclear weapons and warned Defence Secretary Pete Hegseth to remain prepared for a "full, large-scale assault" if talks collapse.

Despite Tehran submitting a revised peace proposal to Washington, senior US officials have suggested little meaningful progress has been made.

"We are really not making a lot of progress. We are at a very serious place today. The pressure is on them to be responsive in the right way," one official told Axios.

The source also warned: "If not, we will have a conversation through bombs, which will be a shame."

Mr Trump has previously warned that any Iranian attempt on his life would result in orders to "wipe them off the face of the Earth".

In March, a Pakistani man with links to the Islamic Republic was convicted over a plot to assassinate senior US politicians.

Asif Merchant, 47, hired a hitman in New York to kill prominent American officials and targeted Mr Trump during the 2024 presidential campaign.

Following a week-long trial in Brooklyn, a federal jury found him guilty of murder-for-hire and attempted terrorism transcending national boundaries.
